Most car owners believe that when a panoramic sunroof is closed, the rubber weatherstrip creates a 100% watertight seal.

In automotive engineering, this is a myth. Large glass panels expand and contract with temperature, so outer rubber seals are designed only as water deflectors. Rainwater intentionally seeps past the outer edge into an aluminum perimeter drip tray.

From this tray, four flexible rubber drain hoses run down inside the A-pillars and C-pillars, discharging water safely beneath the chassis.

In Mumbai, fine construction dust, tree blossoms, and road grime accumulate in the sunroof tracks during dry months. When torrential monsoon rains arrive, this debris washes into the narrow 6mm drain tubes, forming an impermeable mud plug.
